Abstract
In vitro microtuberization between normal and transgenic potato harboring herbicide resistance gene in 4 potato cultivars (Desiree, Atlantic, Norland, and Superior) was investigated. The rate of tuberization increased till 5 weeks, but maintained still after 6 weeks. Microtuber initiation of transgenic Superior and Desiree was faster than other cultivars, but no difference was observed after 5 weeks compared with normal plantlets. In Norland, small size microtubers weighing 100 §· or less were produced but the other three cultivars produced much of medium size microtubers weighing 100-200 §·. Among 4 cultivars, Desiree cultivar produced the highest number of microtubers per culture vessel. Superior and Atlantic produced larger microtubers than Desiree and Norland. The results of this experiment suggest that there is no significant differences in microtuber production efficiency between normal and transgenic potatoes.
